After reading a tutorial by Miz Booshay at one of my favorite photography blogs, I decided to give it a go.
To take photos inside using the light from outside without a flash. In Manual mode - so no relying on my camera being magic. I have to do the work. all. by. myself.
Gear:
Nikon D90
Lens:
Nikkor 50mm
This has been something I've been trying to do for a while with little success. The photos are still grainier than I would like, but I love the natural look to them. I'm also learning that part of the reason why my photos are grainy has a little to do with the capabilities of my camera. That was not something I was happy about reading. But don't worry, I will persevere.
I also dealt with the issue of wanting to take photos of the boy with the pretty blue eyes, but the boy not wanting to cooperate. Then there was Finley, in no mood for photos with his little cough and off and on fever (don't worry, you'll see). Spencer was of course more than willing. I know the kids will ask when they're older, "Why are there more photos of Spencer, Mommy... you must love him more!" To which I'll say, "I love you all the same, Spencer just LOVES having his photo taken."
So here's the results of my playing around... it was fun and I'm looking forward to practicing more and hopefully getting better results!

This is what my kitchen actually looks like from the perspective of me sitting in my desk chair. When I use the flash, colors are distorted... brighter, perhaps. Here you can see the true color of my walls and the true color of my teapot.

Spencer being silly (I have a LOT of these). I love the light in his eyes in this shot.

Where's Mommy? Yep, sometimes it's the only way to get him to look at the camera. I love how his eyes are reflected in the tabletop.
This shot demonstrates what I love about playing with Aperture.

Once again, he's trying really hard not to look at me.

Yes, I know this is sad... He's had a hard few days, poor little guy. Look at those crocodile tears! Poor baby...

He looked at me and smiled!

This one is almost ALWAYS smiling
Spencer and our kitty, Scrabble, have been very close lately. Spencer carries him all over the house and loves him dearly. It's so sweet!
